Depression Treatment

Have You Experienced A Loss Of Interest Or Pleasure In Your Daily Activities?

Do you find that you’ve developed an increasingly pessimistic mindset? Is it common for you to experience feelings of guilt, shame, and worthlessness? Are you crippled by the intense sadness, hopelessness, and emotional numbness that characterize an onset of depression?

You may find yourself unmotivated or unable to get out of bed and perform daily activities, such as caring for yourself, your family, or going to work or school. It could be that even something as routine as eating has become a thing you’re doing in excess or not at all, creating even more of an upset in your daily regimen.

Perhaps you often feel exhausted and find yourself sleeping all day. Or conversely, you might have sleep disturbances that cause you to struggle to fall asleep or repeatedly wake up throughout the night. As a result of sleepless nights, you may be experiencing cognitive symptoms of depression, such as finding it difficult to remember things correctly or concentrate on the things in front of you.

And if your depression has escalated, it’s possible that you have begun to engage in self-destructive behaviors. For example, maybe you frequently use substances to numb the pain of certain emotions, or perhaps you self-harm in an effort to find relief.

t’s even possible that, more and more, you find yourself thinking about death or suicide.

But relief is possible! With therapy, you can learn to adjust your mindset, cope with depression, and re-ignite a passion for life.

Depression Is An Extremely Common Illness

Though symptoms of depression can be agonizing and isolating, you’re not alone in this struggle. The National Institute on Mental Health estimates that well over 17 million adults in the US have experienced at least one major depressive episode.

Depression is a typical response to challenging life transitions. These may include grief or loss, a breakup or divorce, unemployment, or a severe medical diagnosis. In addition to circumstantial factors, genetic predisposition to depression is often at play, making it a disorder with many roots and causes.

Moreover, those of us who struggle with this mental health challenge may not even have anything to which to attribute our distress. Clinical depression can arise for no identifiable reason, which can make it deeply unsettling and uncomfortable if left untreated.

The stigma surrounding mental health in this country, however, has made it difficult for those struggling with depression to find necessary help and support. But of the millions and millions of people who have experienced at least one depressive episode, the vast majority of those who have sought care from a mental health professional tend to see improvement in their symptoms.

If you find yourself feeling ashamed and isolated in your suffering, we want you to understand that you are not alone. Depression is a highly manageable disorder that can be conquered with the right therapeutic treatment—and we are here to support you.

Depression Treatment Can Help You Make Small Changes With A Big Impact

Contrary to how hopeless the fog of depression may make your life feel, it is nevertheless a treatable illness. At Rhapsody Behavioral Healthcare, our team of clinicians approaches treatment by targeting distorted thinking patterns and emotional distress to help clients reduce symptoms of depression.

Once you have been placed with one of our experienced and professional therapists, we will perform an intake that will allow your clinician to understand your story and reasons for seeking therapy. You may request for your other healthcare providers to be included in depression treatment (this can be further discussed throughout your intake).

From there, we will use elements of psychoeducation to help you learn more about the impact that depression has on you. And as your clinician gets to know your symptoms a little better, they will work to understand the implications that depression has on your life so that they can tailor treatment to meet your unique needs.

Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), your therapist will help you to re-establish healthier and more affirming thought patterns. This involves challenging and changing the negative beliefs you maintain about yourself, improving emotional regulation, and giving you the tools to develop personal coping strategies to manage stress and reduce symptoms of depression.

In addition, by exploring various lifestyle changes—including exercise, nutrition, and sleep hygiene—and identifying effective social supports, you will be able to improve your quality of life. And when you learn to set meaningful boundaries and eliminate toxic relationships, you will begin to see improvements in your day-to-day functioning.

At Rhapsody Behavioral Healthcare, we view our clients as comrades in developing an effective depression treatment plan. By partnering with us on this journey, you can meet both big and small goals to help you establish new, healthy, and life-affirming habits.

Depression has been lying to you about what you can and cannot accomplish, but we can help you find ways to quiet that voice. With depression treatment at Rhapsody Behavioral Healthcare, life can get better, symptoms can improve, and you can learn to treat yourself with compassion and respect.

Maybe you’re curious about trying therapy for depression, but you still have questions…

I heard that antidepressants are effective—can’t I just use those for treating depression?

We are happy to assist you in leveraging as many treatment options as you need and can partner with your physician or psychiatrist when it comes to creating your tailored depression treatment plan. We also can provide referrals for psychiatrists who can assist you with finding a medication that works for you.

It’s important to note, however, that the combination of medication and therapy is likely to yield better results than just using medication alone. Research suggests that combining them can help ensure recovery from depression. And according to a 2013 study, psychotherapy had a lower rate of relapse when compared to medication-only treatment plans.

We also want to point out that clients are more likely to maintain a therapy regimen than a medication regimen, making therapy the most effective means for finding long-term relief from symptoms of depression.

I’m worried about what people will think if they find out that I’m in therapy for depression.

We recognize that the stigma of mental health is still an unfortunate component of our culture. However, if you are struggling with depression, distorted thinking about yourself and others is likely at the core of your distress. And therapy can help you to overcome the voice in your head that runs on fear and self-doubt.

Here at Rhapsody Behavioral Healthcare, we believe that taking the steps to improve your mental health is a highly commendable act. Nothing is more important than your health and well-being, so we encourage you to not be afraid of putting yourself first—no matter what your reservations about therapy might be.

I’m afraid you will share my personal information with others.

Our clinicians always pledge confidentiality and remain HIPAA compliant with all of our treatment approaches. That means we are not authorized to share any information about your therapy sessions unless you give us explicit permission to do so. Even if we are partnered with your other healthcare providers, we will request your authorization before sharing any information about your depression treatment.
